Season five of the FX hit series "Sons of Anarchy" debuted its third episode titled "Laying Pipe" on Sept. 25.  However, while the program has many viewers pleased as usual, Tuesday's show brought a shocking SAMCRO member's death to the city of Charming.

Entertainment Weekly had reported earlier in the week that, "a very important person within the SAMCRO family will die. It's a primetime certainty."

The site even narrowed down the choices to some other notable main characters, which included Tara Teller (Maggie Siff), Juice Ortiz (Theo Rossi) and Wayne Unser (Dayton Callie).

However, Opie (Ryan Hurst) was ultimately the one who kicked the bucket. The demise of the already tragedy-ridden biker started when the Pope (Harold Perrineau) negotiated a deal for retribution on a Niner member and deceased cop with incarcerated club leader Jax (Charlie Hunnam), which forced him to pick one imprisoned SAMCRO member to send in a behind-bars death bout.  In order for murder charges to be dropped and witnesses to recant their stories, the death of one Son's member had to take place.

By abruptly attacking a prison guard, Opie volunteered himself.  Though the beloved biker tried his best to prevail, he eventually was clobbered to death with a lead pipe.

As expected, many fans of SOA took to Twitter to voice their anger about the main character's killing.

"@sutterink I absolutely hate you,"  tweeted @dmpullen.

"@sutterink DAMN YOU!" ptatedink DAMN YOU!"s of SOA took to Twitter to voice their anger about the main character'ied his best to prevail, he eventualosted @WaltonsCastro

Avenged Sevenfold drummer Mike Portnoy even commented on the shocking death.

"I cannot believe what I just watched...why @sutterink why????????"

Kurt Sutter, the creator behind the "Sons of Anarchy" has had no qualms in the past about offing  characters, which as of late included Opie's father and SAMCRO original Piney Winston.

Many wouldn't be surprised if the now infamous showrunner kills off a couple of other Son's members before the series' completion.  However, "Laying Pipe" did offer its viewers the biggest loss on SOA to date.

"Sons of Anarchy" season 5 episode 4 will be airing next on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd at 9 PM ET.
