Update: In an email statement to USAToday, Ford's publicist stated that the actor experienced engine problems soon after take off and chose to make an emergency landing.

"He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery," she's quoted explaining.

Movie star Harrison Ford got into a plane crash in California on Thursday.

The good news is the actor has survived. The bad news is he is seriously injured.

TMZ reported that Ford was piloting a small yellow plane that crash-landed in an LA golf course in Venice, California. He was apparently flying a two-seated vintage fighter plane when something went wrong.

The actor was transported to a nearby hospital where his injuries sounded pretty dangerous. He reportedly suffered multiple gashes to his head and bled a lot.

The site even posted some images of the crash as the plane can be seen in the grass looking damaged.

According to NBC News, the 72-year-old was conscious and breathing when the rescue crew found him. He was taken to the hospital for moderate condition.

"There was blood all over his face," Howard Tabe, and employee at the golf course, said. "Two very fine doctors were treating him. I helped put a blanket under his hip."

This isn't the first time that Ford has been in a crash like this one. As an active flyer in planes and helicopters, he got into another accident in Santa Clara, California in 1999

He discussed the situation with National Geographic in 2008.

"Well, there was a mechanical failure while we were practicing power recovery autorotations," he said. "It was more or less a hard landing. Luckily, I was with another aviation professional and neither of us was hurt- and both of us are still flying."
