A few details have been released on the anticipated sixth season of Downton Abbey, including if there will be a Christmas episode or not.

Is Maggie Smith NOT Making Plans To Leave 'Downton Abbey?'

On Tuesday, Hugh Bonneville who plays Robert Crawley on the series, attended the TRIC Awards in London where the series earned an award for Drama Program of the Year. The actor teased some stuff that will be taking place in the sixth season as the characters adapt to new changes.

"We're in 1925, so the series has nudged on another six months, and Lady Rose has been on her honeymoon and she's now moved to America," Bonneville said, posted on Digital Spy.

Could 'Downton Abbey' Continue Without Maggie Smith?

"Tom Branson has gone to Boston, and some faces that we met towards the end of the fifth season may or may not be coming over the horizon to break or make the hearts of Lady Mary and Lady Edith and people like that," the actor added.

Is there going to be a Christmas episode coming up? It turns out that fans can embrace the season later this year because a holiday special is indeed happening.

"We will," Bonneville confirmed. "We'll do a ninth episode which will come out at Christmas."

The actor was also asked if Paul Giamatti or Shirley MacLaine would be back on the series.

"I don't know. I haven't heard that one, but we'd all be delighted because we love having them," Bonneville said. "The guest artists we've had have been amazing and to have any of them back would be brilliant."

Downton Abbey Season 6 is expected to air in the United States in early 2016 on PBS.
