Lea Michele (who plays Rachel), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Darren Criss (Blaine), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to promote the final episodes of Glee.

"We were watching Matt Morrison sing us all a song so we were very much in our own world experiencing this," Criss recalled. "And one take they pulled a fast one on us, they took Matt out of it and put basically the entire crew and production there looking at us."

Ushkowitz described the finale experience as similar to putting all of one's family members together and having to say goodbye all at once.

The cast also discussed the death of their late costar Cory Monteith, who played Finn on the series. Overstate said that he is acknowledged in the final episode.

"There's a moment in the last episode that we had [to honor Monteith], and then obviously when we wrapped we all took a moment," Overstreet said.

Colfer said that the experience was so powerful that even though Monteith was not there physically, "He was there, though, we could feel him. He was there."

Glee airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
