With Princess Kate due to give birth to her second child in April, Pippa Middleton just might get the chance to be godmother this time around.

Pippa Middleton Becomes Fashion Icon On Twitter

When Prince George, now 1, was born in 2013, his parents defied royal convention and chose school friends over higher-up royals and blood relations. In 2013 the Daily Mail Little announced seven formal godparents for George. The list included Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Hugh Grosvenor, William van Cutsem, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Oliver Baker, Zara Tindall and Julia Samuel, all of whom are royals, relations, or close friends.

So who didn't make the cut? And why?

How Pippa Middleton Is Staying Down To Earth

Neither James nor Pippa were selected to be godparents for their sister's first child, though things might go differently this time around.

Typically godparents are different for each child, which means the list of potential candidates this time is at least a little shorter.

George's godparents were not officially announced until shortly before the ceremony and so there will be some time before William and Kate have to make the decision for their second child.

It is uncertain why James and Pippa were omitted back in 2013. Neither James' girlfriend nor Pippa's boyfriend were invited to the ceremony for George either, though that would likely change if one of them were to be asked to be a godparent this time around.

Kate is expected to give birth to her second child in April. The royal family has yet to announce the gender of the child, though most rumors suggest that the child will be a girl.
