Ava Jerome hasn't been receiving much good news lately on General Hospital,  it could be because the actress, Maura West, is planning to leave the soap.

Since going to Pentonville to serve time for murdering Connie Falconeri, Ava's life has become increasingly more complicated. She managed to escape prison with her brother, Julian (Michael DeVry), Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Franco (Roger Howarth)-but the escape was interrupted by Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) and Johnny (Brandon Barash).

Carlos shot Ava during the encounter, and she wound up falling off a bridge. Miraculously, she did turn up alive and under Silas' (Michael Easton) protective care. However, he has given her heart-breaking news-she is dying from cancer, and with the exception of her infant daughter, Avery, there are matches to donate bone marrow to her for recovery.

Until recently however, there was nothing which seemed to be a confirmation that West was leaving the role, though it appears the actress has now confirmed an exit on Twitter.

"Most excellent GH fans: Thanks for watching with me...hanging out and playing! Let's do it again someday! Much love, Maura," she wrote.

There have only been rumors thus far that West was leaving, with no official confirmations from General Hospital producers or writers. If the actress is leaving however and Ava does die, it is unclear if that fact that she is currently still alive will be divulged to her loved ones including her daughter, Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Julian.

General Hospital airs Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. on ABC.
