The audience at the 2013 Oscars had better prepare for non-traditional presenting and potentially lewd comedy.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Oct.1 that comedian and voice actor Seth MacFarlane will host next year's Academy Awards according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars," said the show's producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh. He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."

"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," said MacFarlane in a statement. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."

MacFarlane is following in the footsteps of actor Billy Crystal who returned this year after hosting Hollywood's leading awards ceremony several times.

MacFarlane is well known for creating and lending his voice to his animated series on Fox, "Family Guy," "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show."

The comedian's film debut, "Ted," which starred Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis was a sleeper hit that ended up being one of this year's biggest blockbusters.

"Ted" was his first live action project and earned $420 million worldwide in ticket sales.

MacFarlane provided the voice over for Wahlberg's onscreen childhood companion, an animated stuffed bear.

MacFarlane hosted the first episode of the new season of "Saturday Night Live," earlier this month and stood out at last month's 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards.

When the "Ted" star went onstage to present the Best Reality Show Host award, he reportedly stood in front of the wrong microphone so the audience could not hear him.

"Oh, the mic's over there!" said MacFarlane when he realized his mistake.

When MacFarlane found the working microphone, he joked into the mic in the voice of his "Family Guy" character Stewie: "This is what happens when you don't come to rehearsal."

MacFarlane later tweeted a sketch about his mistake and took a jab at the Emmys for not nominating his show.

The 85th Academy Awards will be telecast live on February 24, 2013.
