Although George R.R. Martin is going to be sorely missed by Game of Thrones fans at Comic-Con, but the novelist can be expediently excused as he is reportedly working on a new book in the series.

The AV Club revealed that the author won't be attending the San Diego Comic-Con, and he has a bloody good reason for it. The writer will be busy at work on The Winds of Winter, which he alternately, comically calls Son of Kong.

In fact Martin also addressed this on his blog, explaining why he might be absent from another important convention:

"I've just had to scratch Saratoga off my list of 2015 appearances. For no reason having to do with the con itself. I am sure it will be terrific. It's just a matter of time. I have too much to do. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them."

The writer expressly employs his wit and humor, in weighing the importance of these conventions and his commitment to the book as goes on to add:

"Should I complete and deliver Winds Of Winter before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind."

We feel, Martin has done his rounds of conventions and Comic-Cons and this would be the tiniest of sacrfices to get another one of his magnificent stories out and keep the Game of Thrones series going. Here's hoping he actually doesn't change his mind, much to the chagrin of fans who might be attending the San Diego Comic-Con this year.
