The animal's owner posted a video on Youtube of the lifeless body along with details leading up the kitten's birth. The video, which may be uncomfortable for some to watch, includes with a description stating that the mother kitten had to have a cesarean procedure performed on Oct. 4, a day past her due date, and that the delivery was very difficult. Two other babies were delivered and both survived.
The Cyclops kitten also did not have an eyelid. If it had lived, it would have been blind and unable to eat without assistance, Examiner.com reported.
The Youtube video was posted on Oct. 6 and at time of publication, it already had over 45,000 views. The clip is also accompanied by Sarah McLachlan's "Angel."
"What a beautiful little soul, had he made it to live I know many people would have wanted to adopt and care for him...Such a very, very rare thing to happen," one Youtube user commented. "How unique and special is he! To me he was a beautiful little boy and so very rare and dear. Rest in Peace over the Rainbow Bridge where how you look does not matter."
According to Yahoo Health, holoprosencephaly occurs when the fore brain during the development of the fetus fails to separate into two hemispheres, which results in conditions such as malformation of the face and defects in brain structure and function. The orbits of the eyes failing to separate can result in a single eye.
Other facial malformations noted by the report include one instance when both ears were placed where the chin should have been.
