May's (Ming-Na Wen) past will come to the fore in "Melinda," and viewers will have a chance to see the May that Coulson (Clark Gregg) knew before the Bahrain incident turned the skilled agent into the Cavalry.

"Without going too much into the story, because this episode tells the story of May's past, she's a very different May in this episode," executive producer Jeff Ball informed Entertainment Weekly. "This is the May before this incident happened. And so there are qualities that Ming brings to the role. Seeing her married back in the day... we've already met Andrew (Blair Underwood), but to sort of see what May was like back at that time is a different color, and I think Ming does that beautifully."

Gonzales recently revealed that the Bahrain mission ended when May had to put down a powered person, and the secrets of SHIELD - particularly those of Coulson - will fold into the flashback as the SHIELD vs. SHIELD battle continues in the present.
