The Game of Thrones TV show left out a very important line during the season premiere that was present in the books, regarding Cersei's prophecy.

Sunday night was the season 5 premiere of HBO's Game of Thrones, bringing about much fanfare. The opening scene of the premiere featured a young Cersei receiving a prophecy from Maggy, a fortune teller.

In the prophecy, Cersei was told that she would be Queen for a time but would be replaced by a younger woman eventually, in addition to the very ominous warning about her three children: "Gold will be their crown, gold will be their shrouds."

However, the TV show made no mention of the last part of the prophecy featured in the books by George R. R. Martin. In A Feast for Crows, Maggy also tells Cersei, "And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you."

Valonqar is High Valyrian for "little brother," suggesting that either Tyrion or Jaime might be responsible for her ultimate death in the future. Show runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff leaving this out of the show is an interesting choice.

Benioff spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the prophecy, noting that it might not necessarily come to be.

"The interesting thing about prophecies is they don't always come true," Benioff said. "Melisandre thinks she sees things in the flames and sometimes she's right and sometimes she's not. One of the things we like about George's books is it's not as if everything always honest to where some enigmatic prophecy determines the fate of each character."

It remains to be seen what Cersei's fate will be this season or for the rest of the series, but it is bound to be juicy.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
