They've been together for over three years and welcomed a daughter together last fall, and now, Ryan Gosling is finally dishing a little bit about his relationship with Eva Mendes.

Ryan Gosling Misses Esmeralda's First Easter

The actor/director, 34, talked about his directorial debut, Lost River, at Apple's Meet the Filmmaker Q&A in New York over the weekend, where he talked about how glad he was to have worked as an actor before moving into directing a film of his own.

"You're constantly acting like there's not a problem," he said during the event. "There's always a problem, Everything's always going wrong and you're always acting like it's fine."

Gosling also revealed a little bit about why he chose the cast he did for the film--which included Mendes, in addition to Christina Hendricks, Ben Mendohlson, Matt Smith, Iain De Caestecker and Saoirse Ronan.

"I hired everyone because I admired them and I trust them," he said. "So for me it wasn't directing them as much as it was letting them film the characters and tell me what [the characters] would and wouldn't do. I was there if they wanted to talk about something, but more I felt my job was to sort of create an environment and space for them to do their thing."

Though Gosling didn't single out Mendes specifically when he talked about his cast, it is one of the rare times he has somewhat acknowledged her in an interview, as the couple is very private about their romance, and hardly ever do talk about it to the press.

They also keep most information regarding their daughter private as well, and have yet to allow the seven-month-old to be seen in public.
