Gary Collins Dead: Former Miss America Pageant Host Passes Away on Saturday, Was 74
TV and radio host Gary Collins died Saturday, authorities in Harrison County, Mississippi said. He was 74.
The famous actor and former host of the Miss America Pageant, who was known for his warmth style as a host, died of natural causes at around 1 am Saturday, reports the Clarion Ledger. He had been admitted to Biloxi Regional Medical Center on Friday evening, Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove informed, according to the paper.
Collins was born in California. He was a talented actor who appeared in several television shows, movies, mini-series and series. He won an Emmy Award in 1983 for Oustanding Talk Show Host and received a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
His gigs in television as host include the talk show "Hour Magazine" in the 80s and ABC's "The Home Show." He was also the host of the Miss America Pageant from 1982 to 1990.
Collins was married to former Miss America Mary Ann Mobley.
