TV star Sarah Hyland opened up on an issue she dealt with years back that pushed her to live life to the fullest.

The actress graces the cover of Seventeen's May 2015 issue where she opened up on a health scare that took place in 2012. According to News.com.au, Hyland underwent a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with kidney dysplasia.

In fact, the Modern Family star has had some health problems since the day she was born.

"I was born with so many health issues that doctors told my mother I would never have a normal life," Hyland said. "And she said, 'You're right, she won't- but it won't be because of her health.'"

Her mom was right since Hyland is now a hard-working celebrity with success on television and movies, including the teen horror comedy Vampire Academy. In the film, she worked with actor Dominic Sherwood and now the two are dating.

Hyland mentioned that knowing what other people said about her when she was a baby made her realize that she needs to live the best life she can possibly think of.

"When my mother told me that story, it resonated with me: If I can't have an ordinary life, I might as well have an extraordinary one," she said. "If you set your mind to something, you'll achieve it."

The 24-year-old then opened up on the importance of having a goal and what to do when something else can get in the way of that.

"When you're feeling vulnerable, it can lead to doubt and second-guessing," she admitted. "It will steer you away from your goals and your happiness. Once you have a goal, keep moving forward- even if you're taking baby steps."
