During the Teen Mom OG: Featured Moment, Lowell and Baltierra admitted things aren't always easy when it comes to the boundaries in place for their firstborn.

“You have to really figure out where you stand as birth parents and where they stand as her parents,” Lowell explained, according to a report by Wetpaint Entertainment on Friday. “Because as birth parents, you feel like, ‘Well, I birthed her, we love her just like she’s our own, so we should be able to do anything we want.'”

Lowell and Baltierra welcomed Carly in 2009, but because of their dire financial state, as well as their lack of stability, they chose adoption for the child. In the years since, they have maintained a relationship with Carly and her adoptive parents, Brandon and Theresa Davis, but as Baltierra explains, it isn't always as open as he would like.

“In reality, that’s not true. You can’t do everything you want, because you sacrificed so they can be in control of all those parenting decisions, which we really respect,” he said.

It's hardest “when you want more than they’re willing to give,” Baltierra explained, adding he and Lowell “get a little selfish” at times.
