Amid buzz that ABC's Castle is still up in the air as far as a renewal or cancellation, the show's creator speaks out about the season 7 finale.

Future Looking Good As Nathan Fillion Signs On For More 'Castle'

Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe recently spoke with TVLine about the finale coming up and what it was like to write the final episode of the season not knowing if the show would come back.

The season 7 finale, titled Hollander's Woods, will be a big one that addresses Castle's (Nathan Fillion) past as well as Beckett's (Stana Katic) future.

Rick Confronts 'Old Wounds' In 'Castle' Season 7 Finale

"Hollander's Woods was an event that happened when [Castle] was a kid that altered who he was.... It has nothing to do with why he vanished, but it does tap into a deeper Castle mythology," Marlowe teased, of the finale.

As for whether the show will be cancelled after season 7, Marlowe still does not know what will happen, though the finale will be satisfying enough if this is indeed the end.

"It was a bit of a challenge to craft a [finale] when there was so much uncertainty about the show's future, with our [actors] in negotiations, not knowing if we're coming back and all that sort of stuff," Marlowe admitted. "We were trying to craft a show that had a satisfying conclusion if it is indeed the conclusion, but also some really great, interesting, compelling springboards into next season's storytelling - if the gods shine upon us and we're allowed to continue."

With Fillion already signing his contract and Katic allegedly on her way to signing hers, things are looking good as long as ABC wants to move forward with the show.

Castle airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
