Call the Midwife is no stranger to medical drama and this is something that the production team is extremely careful about.

Character Begins 'Quite Badly' On 'Call The Midwife'

On Friday, News-Medical shared details from actor Stephen McGann who plays Dr. Patrick Turner on the British drama. In an essay, he writes about how the series takes on accurate proficiency with how medicine is used. This is important for the show especially due to its popularity.

"In an age where complacency or misinformation regarding the safety and purpose of vaccination threatens the return of previously eradicated contagions, the power of dramas like Call the Midwife to raise medical awareness should not be underestimated," the actor noted.

Character Experiences 'Tragic Moments' On 'Call The Midwife'

This gives some insight if the show will continue to raise this awareness as it approaches the fifth season. So far, the episodes have apparently shown the correct way to approach this.

It turns out that more science could be added along as well based on something McGann said, posted on Science Festival.

"As Professor Brian Cox has argued, there should be no part of public life from which science is considered absent or irrelevant," he said. "Why should it be? Our popular culture is the way our society 'thinks out loud' about the things it cares about- through drama, journalism, art, politics. Surely science- as one of the key ways that we think about the world- belongs in those places."

Call the Midwife is expected to return to the United States this December on PBS.
