In a recent interview with TVLine, The Good Wife showrunners Michelle and Robert King spoke to the speculation about Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) having had some motivation in wanting to keep Alicia (Julianna Margulies) from the position of State's Attorney.

The Good Wife Renewed For Two More Seasons?

The latest episode, titled 'The Decontruction,' started with a devastating moment for Alicia, sort of hearkening back to the first few episodes of The Good Wife. She stepped down from the position of State's Attorney, with Peter by her side, almost choking up as she thanked him for his support. Alicia was left completely umoored and Peter was playing her anchor, and in some sly way regained a position of power in her life. While Peter's compassion toward Alicia was made clear toward the end of the episode, there has been speculation about his interest in not having her gain political power.

In the interview the question was posed to the Kings, and they suggested that the idea was more of a psychological play. "I saw that, too, and why that theory is interesting is because on Election Day, it looked like Peter was working against her," Robert said. "In other words, it doesn't have to be conspiracy to be psychologically interesting, because there is something in Peter that wants to be the winner. Can we not say anything more than that?"
