It's been confirmed that someone from the Chicago P.D. team will die before the current cross-over episode with Chicago Fire and Law & Order: SVU ends, but the death is going to rock Erin Lindsay's (Sophia Bush) world much harder than anyone else's.

Chicago P.D. Cross-Over Will Be 'Personal'

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, P.D. and Fire boss Matt Olmstead confirmed that the death would occur--and though he wouldn't give details on just who would perish by the time it was over, he did say that Lindsay would likely never be the same.

"We've got a great bad guy and one of the character in P.D. doesn't make it out alive, unfortunately," he said.

'Chicago Med' Coming Soon?

SVU boss Warren Leight revealed how the events of the episode (loosely inspired by the mass killings done by Ted Bundy in the 1970s) would unfold with a member of the P.D. becoming the murderer's next victim--hence the reason the group would be working so closely with New York's group in an effort to bring justice.

"We had to make sure we had a reason for the P.D. team to stay involved as the perp made his way to New York," he said. "I want to make sure there's a compelling reason for P.D. to be wandering around the SVU squad, so if one of their own is taken hostage by this guy, after we've seen how horrible he is, we understand their pursuit across the timezone."

But unfortunately, as Olmstead confirms, they won't be able to save their kidnapped comrade--and as a result, Lindsay may be forced to question if she truly still belongs within the ranks of Chicago's finest at all--and even considers heading back to where she came from.

"What we get out of it is, towards the end of the season, a spiral for Lindsay because, as we established from the show, she came from the wrong side of the tracks before Voight (Jason Beghe) rehabilitated her and gave her a purpose," he said. "She starts to doubt if it was all worth it or if she doesn't belong back on the other side of the tracks in the company of her mother."

The cross-over event continues tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC.
