Master Herald rumored that the power play might be switched up in the next chapter of the Netflix political drama. The publication hints at Claire (Robin Wright) taking on a villainous role, which seems very likely. The Day Herald also recently reiterated this plot twist.

Now that Claire has decided to seperate from Frank (Kevin Spacey), she might also turn on him more easily. She has all the dirt on Frank and the reports state that she could will his downfall if she so wished.

Showrunner Responds To Criticism Of Rachel's Murder On House of Cards

Enstars previously had a sneaking suspicion that the Netflix drama will in some ways stay true to the BBC original and eventually resort to its crucial plot twists. Just that, as is the American way with television, they will drag the drama out before they get there. In the original series Claire murders Frank eventually, and with the latest season her hatred of Frank has reached dangerous levels.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Beau Willimon dished about the possibility of Claire walking out on Frank for good.

In the third season the Underwood marriage completely came crumbling down. It has been fascinating to watch the marriage which formed the bedrock for Frank, and was his greatest support system in the first two seasons, giving way. Willimon realized that they have set things up to only worsen between the couple from here on out. While speaking to the publication at a special screening of the third season for Emmy voters in Los Angeles, Willimon revealed that the writing team was nervous about the relationship coming to an end.

"A lot of the strength of the show is based on the strength of that marriage. But as soon as we began to explore that, we realized there was no turning back," Willimon said. "We also realized we'd laid the groundwork in the previous two seasons for this conflict between Francis and Claire, the more we began exploring it, the more inevitable it became. And the more exciting it was for us to travel that emotional terrain."

When asked if Frank will be able to move forward without Claire, who has been so pivotal to his success so far, Willimon dished that that would be one of the moot points of the storyline of season 4.

"That's one of the big questions going into season four," he said.

Season 4 is set to return in 2016.
