Josh Charles' exit from The Good Wife was one of the most dramatic events in television last year and fans were left quite devastated after his character Will Gardner was brutally killed off in season 5.

But dismayed fans can now look foward to his return on television as Charles has signed up for a recurring role in Showtime's Masters of Sex. According to Us Weekly, he will play the part of Daniel Logan, a "self-made businessman working in the scent industry" who wants to "bottle the smell of sex and market an aphrodisiac to the general public." Logan will consult the show's pivotal characters William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzie Caplan) to help enhance the fragrance.

In September last year, after he left The Good Wife, Charles has expressed his interest in playing different characters on new shows. He specifically spoke to Screen Crush about this.

The Good Wife Renewed For Two More Seasons?

"I made some good ones and I'm eager to sort of - you know, to me, having this sort of run, this glorious five years of having the security and structure of The Good Wife and working with such brilliant writing," he said. "I mean, look, I had no sort of fantasy that I'm going to like walk out there and immediately like everything's going to be, oh, here's my dream job. But it's really about just wanting to do different characters and I'm hoping that continues in all mediums and I can't wait to find the next television show ... and the good news is, there's a lot going on in my life personally right now."

The next episode of The Good Wife, titled 'Wanna Partner?,' is set to air on CBS on May 10.
