A shocking report reveals the real reason why Jessica Simpson's mother, Tina, filed for divorce from her husband Joe.

According to an upcoming issue of The National Enquirer, Joe, a former Baptist minister, allegedly told his wife of 34 years that he is gay.

A source close to the Simpson family reportedly told the magazine that not only did he open up to being homosexual, but he shared that he has a younger 20-something boyfriend.

Tina filed for divorce in McLennan County, Texas, in September stating, "discord or conflict of personalities" as grounds for the split. Joe's confession allegedly occurred weeks before Tina ended their marriage.

"Joe got the family together about two months ago and came out of the closet," a source reportedly told the publication."He told them that he'd tried to continue in his marriage to Tina, but he couldn't go on any longer and deny the fact that he had these feelings for men. Joe said it wasn't fair to her, and it wasn't fair to him."

Joe made headlines two months ago when he arrested for driving under the influence in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles.

A member of the Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly that "he was detained overnight at Valley jail in Van Nuys before being released at 9:40 a.m. on August 5 after posting $5,000 bail."

Joe said he was not guilty for driving under the influence. His attorney pleaded not guilty on his behalf to two DUI charges in September. He had a pretrial hearing on Oct. 11.

"Joe's arrest shocked his family," a source told Us Weekly at the time. "Anytime he's in the news, it directly reflects upon Jessica and Ashlee."

The source who opened up to The National Enquirer about Joe's shocking confession also revealed that his boyfriend was with him at the time of the arrest.

"The police report stated that there was someone else in the car with Joe," said the insider. "Some reports have stated it was Tina, but now the belief is that it may well have been a boyfriend."

The National Enquirer featuring the exclusive report that Joe has admitted to being gay will arrive on newsstands on Thursday, Oct. 25.
