After a 2008 presidential bid which proved he may have some political power following a victory in the Iowa Caucus, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has once again decided to enter the race for the presidency and officially announced his candidacy for 2016.

Huckabee announced his candidacy on May 5, joining several other names that have also declared they would run, including Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, as well as a spate of other potential candidates.

Those who remember the 2008 primaries may remember Huckabee (who eventually lost out to official nominee Senator John McCain), but for those who have since forgotten some of what he's done, here are 5 fast facts about the newest Republican candidate:

1. He's an ordained Baptist Minister:

Huckabee is an ordained Southern Baptist minister, and holds onto support from Evangelical Christians as a result.

2. He has a questionable record when it comes to issuing pardons:

As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee issued more than 1,000 pardons and commutations, including one controversial one of a man who later went on to become a suspect in the shooting deaths of four police officers in Tacoma, Washington. This record could be used against him during the primaries, and if he won the nomination, during the actual Presidential race as well.

3. His $3 million beachfront home has also raised questions:

Huckabee's home is on a severely eroded beach, where he was granted permits to build after moving his homesite back by five feet. However, according to a Reuters report, it's questionable because he has 'been able to work around some of the restrictive beach development laws in the country.'

4. He plays bass in a band called Capitol Offense:

He previously did shows with the band (which also includes members of his staff) during his prior campaign.

5. He has spoken out against, of all things, Beyonce & Jay-Z:

He later defended his remarks on NPR, but in his book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy, which was published earlier this year, Huckabee criticized the pair of music royalty for their 2014 Grammy performance, which he deemed raunchy, saying Beyonce should leave the explicit moves for the privacy of the couple's bedroom, and asked if Jay-Z realized he was simply pimping his wife out.
