'Orange Is the New Black' Star Laverne Cox Reveals Why Season 3 Is Her Favorite

Cleary Wolters, who was the inspiration for Alex Vause and had a relationship with Piper Kerman in real life, admitted that the show has essentially diverted from what actually happened. The former prisoner spoke with HuffPost Live where she suggested that the show has turned into its own thing rather than taking from real life.

Wolters is also shocked that Laura Prepon is playing the show version of her.

"I'm flattered that they picked out me in her life as such an interesting, charismatic character that they had to make a whole backstory about me," Wolters said. "I never imagined I'd be Donna from That 70s Show. When I watch that part of the series, I watch it as a viewer. I don't say 'that's my life.'"

She discussed seeing the trailer for Orange Is the New Black for the first time and knowing Prepon was essentially playing her.

"There are hints of reality in the show, and maybe I'm just seeing them because I want to see them so much, but there are things that make me think 'Is Piper consulting on this? Is she telling them things?' The glasses were a dead giveaway [that Laura Prepon is me], so I immediately recognized it in the commercial," she said. "Taylor Schilling does a great job of being Piper. Piper's a little less deer in the headlights, though."

Wolters also admitted that there is less sex out in the open in prison, particularly in the showers. She explained that prisoners would be sent to solitary confinement if they were caught having sex in the shower.

Meanwhile, Orange Is the New Black season 3 is slated for release on Friday, June 12 on Netflix.
