Once Upon a Time co-creators and show runners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz spoke with TVLine this week about the season 4 finale coming up, and particularly a special scene in the episode.

Kitsis explained how the episode will launch the show in a new direction going forward.

Gold & The Author 'Turn the Tables' In 'Once Upon a Time' Finale?

"There is a top-secret scene that I'm shocked hasn't got out - but there's still time!" Kitsis quipped. "We'll absolutely be setting up what Season 5 will be, but unlike last year where it was, 'Hey, it's Frozen,' or the year before which was, 'Hey, we're going to Neverland,' this one will be much more like Season 1 in that it's a condition of the show that changes and has ramifications for everyone."

Horowitz simply added, "If we zigged in the past, we're hoping to zag this time."

Some are speculating that the characters will be changed drastically, as previewed in the promo for the finale, which shows Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) being evil and Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) being good.

Kitsis spoke on how they want to give the audience a chance to see the true power of the Author.

"We feel we owe it to the audience to show what happens [when] the Author does start to write, and what he can do," he said.

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
