During the season 10 trailer for Bravo's The Real Housewives of Orange County, several cast members were seen discussing Ayer's alleged Stage 3 cancer diagnosis. However, rather than give sympathy to Gunvalson, the women instead questioned whether or not the diagnosis ever happened.

In response to the trailer, Gunvalson tweeted a confirmation of the diagnosis, claiming, "Brooks has stage 3 non hodgkin's cancer. Keep watching to find out the truth." Added Tamra Barney, "The truth always comes out."

Then, after a fan called out Barney, claiming she dislikes Ayers, Heather Dubrow set the record straight, telling the Real Housewives fan, "She doesn't, she just cares about Vicki."

In November of last year, after discovering her on-again, off-again boyfriend's grim diagnosis, Gunvalson spoke to Us Weekly.

"I just knew something was right. He hadn't been really looking good," Gunvalson explained to the magazine. "I had came home from a business trip and he said, 'My cancer is back. I have Stage 3.' We were standing outside. It was like 9:30 at night and I just burst into tears. I don't know a lot about Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. All I know is, going back for a third time, it's not going away."
