By getting Jennifer Love Hewitt on board for season 10 of Criminal Minds as Kate Callahan, the producers of the show have really raised the expectations of fans from the show.

Now that the series has been officially picked up for another season, talk of the possibility of new characters is also taking over.

As Hewitt marked her exit with the finale of season 10, loyal viewers of the show will need another element in the next capter to make up for Hewitt's contribution to the CBS procedural. While it's too early for the showrunners to reveal future plans, we reckon another big star might be lined up for season 11. Our speculation is not entirely misplaced, as in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly executive producer Erica Messer had a thing or two to say about that. She addressed the question of bringing in new characters and actors in season 11. Messer was not sure of what exactly they might be looking at when writing up a new character just yet, and they might also be open to bringing back some old characters. But we're rooting for the "fun guest star" that Messer hinted at.

"It's such a big discussion with so many cooks in the kitchen. We haven't really concentrated on that yet. Our season in the writers' room will begin June 1, so that's our work for the beginning of season 11," she said. "We have had a revolving door, and sometimes there might be fun in [bringing back someone] who's come in that door and say, 'Hey, do you want to come back and play for a little bit?' Which would be amazing because it's always a fun thing when shows get to bring people back. It takes a lot of us getting together and talking about what we've seen and what we need. It feels like there's nothing missing on our team. We've got such a great group. Our core group that everyone's known and loved for so many years cover all of our bases, so anything on top of it is like a bonus. This might be a good opportunity to bring in a fun guest star for a while and maybe shake it up a little bit."
