Oh no! The Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer has to ditch their iconic tally mark logo because of copyright issues!

The band recently released new merchandise and for the most part the tally mark logo is missing and has been replaced with a skull design.

Over the weekend a fan of the four-piece punk rock band tweeted, "Yo 5sos bring back the tally mark logo and drop the skull pls," which the band's bassist Calum Hood tweeted in reply to, but has since deleted.

He told the fan, "copyright brah," which basically means the band was not legally using the tally mark logo.

It was "too problematic to use" according to Tom Gordon who is a designer that works with many musicians on creating various artwork to accompany their music. On Gordon's website he further shared that it was in July 2014 that he was initially "asked to submit a handful of designs to a merchandise pitch for 5 Seconds of Summer" since the Australian band's management had seen his previous work.

The project was supposed to be small, but "turned into a full blown branding job" due to the tally mark logo copyright infringement. The skull that is currently circulating as the band's main logo "was a quick doodle" Gordon produced "for a lanyard design!" Plus, the tally marks aren't totally gone since they seem to appear in different forms on the latest designs of the merchandise they released. For instance, the 5SOS: Skull T-Shirt has five tick marks, but they aren't in the same form as their original tally mark logo.

Fans are properly pissed off about the loss of the tally mark logo though. One fan shared on Twitter that the tally mark logo holds a lot of meaning as seen in the photo below.

Fans have even begun a petition to get the logo back on Change.org! It has just over 2,300 signatures and has a goal of 5,000.
