Legendary late night host David Letterman is taking one final bow Wednesday night on his long-running CBS show.

Late Show with David Letterman is coming to an end tonight and Letterman is preparing to go out with a bang. The show began in the summer of 1993 and has been on the air for 22 years.

There are lots of surprises ahead for the big finale, but one piece of info that is already known is Letterman's final musical guest: The Foo Fighters. The rock band led by Dave Grohl has been a favorite of Letterman's over the years.

Grohl recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Letterman and his legacy.

"There's something rock 'n' roll about Letterman," Grohl said. "He's just America's number one smart-a-. He's shaped generations of people. Everybody at some point has wanted to be like David Letterman."

Meanwhile, Late Show executive producer Rob Burnett discussed what's ahead for the finale.

"We have all kinds of stuff planned," he said. While there won't be any big sit-down interviews, the finale promises big guest stars and a "beautiful ending to the show that Barbara Gaines, one of our executive producers, really marshaled."

The EP added, "I think it probably will come down to the minute that Dave says goodnight. Dave is very good at that, and I think no matter what he does, it will have emotional impact."

Late Show with David Letterman ends Wednesday night at 11:30/10:30c on CBS.
