Paulson is one of many cast members returning for season 5 of American Horror Story, subtitled Hotel. The actress is reportedly playing "the baddest bad girl" according to AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy.

The actress recently spoke with The Wrap and talked about the idea of playing a villain and whether or not those rumors about her playing Joplin are true.

Sarah Paulson Reveals Why She Was 'Jealous' Of Jessica Lange

"I've never played any villain on the show, so perhaps there's going to be an element on bad, bad girl," Paulson said. "Here's the only thing I can give you ... I am not playing Janis Joplin. I would love that, that would be amazing, but no, I am not doing that."

This rumor first surfaced when a fake cast and character list was released from an IMDb user claiming Paulson was playing the singer.

Meanwhile, Paulson is very excited to be working with a singer in real life, Lady Gaga. The eccentric pop star has signed on for a role in Hotel and Paulson is hoping to become her new best friend.

"I will not have succeeded in this season if I do not have a way of contacting her directly, like a cell phone number, by the end of the season," Paulson said. "It will be very embarrassing to me if we don't become really tight, close friends."

American Horror Story: Hotel is set to premiere in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
