One of the stars of Fox's New Girl has joined the cast of FX's American Horror Story: Hotel.

Is Sarah Paulson Playing Janis Joplin In The Latest 'American Horror Story' Entry?

Max Greenfield, who plays Schmidt in the Fox sitcom, has signed on for a role in American Horror Story: Hotel, according to a new tweet by AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy.

"This October, Max Greenfield (like you've never seen him) is checking in to the hotel....but not checking out. #AHSHotel", Murphy wrote in a tweet posted on Monday.

The tweet was quickly retweeted and favorited by thousands of his followers.

Greenfield filmed part of season 5 of New Girl ahead of schedule with the rest of his cast due to star Zooey Deschanel's pregnancy. They are taking a break as Deschanel has her baby and recovers, allowing Greenfield to film his scenes for Hotel.

The actor joins a growing list of stars that include Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, Chloë Sevigny and Lady Gaga.

One interesting pattern that seems to be emerging with this cast is the amount of conventionally attractive young white males with dark hair. Other actors of Greenfield's type include Bomer, Bentley and Jackson and if Finn Wittrock returns after his controversial Dandy Mott role in Freak Show, he would be another actor of a similar type.

In any case, it is unclear if Greenfield will be a regular on the series and what type of role he will have, but based on Murphy's comment that he will be checking in "but not checking out," it's possible his character may die in the hotel.

American Horror Story: Hotel premieres in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
