The author commented on the Longmire being bought by Netflix after it ran for three seasons on A&E.

"That was amazing," Johnson said, of Netflix picking up the series. "A lot of the credit for that has to go to the viewers. They were ferocious about not letting this show go. This group, the Longmire Posse, really pushed hard to get the show back on the air. That's kind of a wonderful thing to have happen."

Johnson also spoke about his Walt Longmire book series and why he enjoys writing the mysteries so much.

"I just enjoy Walt's company," the author admitted. "He's a little different from the majority of crime fiction characters out there. He's more on the stoic side, the silent Western protagonist: 'Talk low, talk slow and say what you mean.' I think people read the books and watch the TV show for the same reason."

Actor Robert Taylor portrays Walt in the Western drama.

The cast and crew of Longmire are nearing the end of production on the 10-episode fourth season in New Mexico.

Longmire season 4 is expected to be released in the fall on Netflix.
