Orange Is the New Black star Taylor Schilling recently admitted that it's been difficult to perform in nude scenes.

Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman on the Netflix prison dramedy, spoke at a Television Academy panel last week and discussed her dilemma with nudity onscreen.

"I've been scared of the nudity, so I've needed some hand holding." Schilling admitted, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She has made some calls to Orange Is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan about this kind of material, though she is often reminded that it is all done to further the story rather than to titillate.

"It's a physical manifestation of the internal vulnerability. Once that's very clear, as an actor, I can go anywhere," the actress explained. "I've gained a lot of confidence through that, too."

Kohan, who also attending at the panel, added on to that, explaining, "I better have a good reason [to write a nude scene] because I know it's asking a lot."

The show runner admitted that she would actually like to show more nudity on the show" explaining, "we still have this prudish, puritanical culture, and we also have so little exposure to diversity in bodies."

Kohan and company did not indicate if there was going to be more nudity in season 3. Either way though, the series has shown over its first two seasons that it is invested in women of all different shapes and sizes from various backgrounds with respect, so an increase in nudity could further display that vulnerability and openness.

Orange Is the New Black season 3 is set for release on Netflix on Friday, June 12. All 13 episodes of the new season are expected to be released at once.
