Guardians of the Galaxy 2 won't tear a page out of comic book history when it comes to introducing Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) dear old dad. Instead, the 2017 film will give viewers an entirely unexpected spin on the original story.

So different, in fact, that Marvel deemed it 'risky.'

"It's different than what's in the comic books. Peter Quill's father is somebody different in the comics," writer/director James Gunn teased, according to Uproxx. "So then when the movie came out, we got green-lit on the sequel right away. I went in and I sat down with those guys and I'm like, 'Okay, here's what I think the sequel should be.' And they were like, 'Oh, whoa. That's risky, but okay.'"

Pratt's Peter Quill burst onto Marvel's big screen slate last summer in Guardians of the Galaxy, quickly introducing viewers to his mismatched team of criminal heroes (see video below). Alongside Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Quill took down Ronan and thwarted Thanos' plans control the orb.
