In a huge NCAA matchup, the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide will face off against the No. 5 LSU Tigers.  Although the respective game may have lost a bit of its significance when the Tigers came up short against Florida a couple weeks ago, it will still mean plenty in terms of the BCS standings come January.

The Crimson Tide kicked off their football season with a victory over Michigan.  The team then prevailed against Western Kentucky.  However, it was their 52-0 blowout over Arkansas that got the attention of the football masses.  From that point on, Alabama took out Florida Atlantic and compiled victories in each of their four conference games against the likes of Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee and Mississippi State.

LSU opened up their season with non-conference wins against North Texas, Washington and Idaho, but started SEC competition by barely skating by at Auburn with a 12-10 win.  The Tigers then beat Towson by a score of 38-22.  However, they then came up short against Florida 14-6.  LSU did rebound afterwards by taking out South Carolina 23-21 and then Texas A&M by a 24-19 margin.

At the present time, Alabama holds a game and a half lead over both the Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs in the SEC West.  The Crimson Tide offense is averaging 222 yards passing yards per game and 214 yards rushing.  On the opposing side of the pigskin, LSU is a force to be reckoned with on defense as they've only let up 246 YPG.

In two games against one another last season, the two programs are even with a victory apiece.  In their first matchup, the Tigers beat Alabama in a 9-6 overtime contest.  However, the Crimson Tide then dominated LSU 21-0 in the BCS national championship game.
