Chris Soules' participation in ABC's Dancing With the Stars may have been what led him to split from his fiancée Whitney Bischoff.

Is Val Chmerkovskiy Leaving 'Dancing With the Stars' After Winning?

Soules and Bischoff, who met and fell in love on ABC's The Bachelor, broke it off on Thursday after six months of engagement.

"Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement," the couple said a statement released on Thursday. "They part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey."

This news comes just two week after Soules' elimination from Dancing With the Stars. While neither of them are blaming the dance competition for their break-up, it seems like it might not have helped any.

Soules and Bischoff spoke with HollywoodLife.com in late April, discussing the toll DWTS took on him and how it affected things between them.

"He just comes home, like, sorry babe. I'm so tired," Bischoff admitted.

"I come home, we'll tape certain portions of the rehearsal on my iPad and I'll watch that, study it, try to go through, listen to music by myself," Soules explained. "I have to go home and do a lot of homework every night."

Soules added that "it's gotten worse" while the competition was furthering along. "It's hard to really focus on [the dances] and nurture the relationship," he said. Though he noted that Bischoff was "supportive every step of the way."

Assuming the show made things get "worse" as the competition reached its final weeks, it's possible that it played a big factor in why they chose to call it quits. No one knows for sure as Soules and Bischoff have mostly kept quiet, beyond the joint statement.

Soules and his pro dancing partner Witney Carson finished in fifth place this season.

Dancing With the Stars will return in the fall on ABC.
