Bad news for Instagram users: it looks like the social media company is doubling down on in-app ads.

Instagram announced a move towards more aggressive advertising on its blog earlier today, explaining that the service has become a strong ad platform since the company launched them roughly a year and a half ago. It isn't going to stop there, the post explains, with more ads, more targeted ads, and actionable ads headed your way.

"Since we launched ads a year and a half ago, Instagram has become a powerful mobile platform for advertisers," the post states. "We've expanded the business to eight countries and have seen many of the best marketers and agencies in the world embrace Instagram to achieve their branding objectives.

"We've worked hard to focus on building a quality experience for businesses and people alike, listening and learning from both our community and our partners. Today we're announcing the steps we'll take to make Instagram ads available to businesses of all types and sizes."

What does this mean for you? It seems "action-oriented" formats will begin cropping up while using Instagram, which will prompt you to buy a product or sign up for a service on the spot as opposed to more passive ads. Instagram is also making it easier for "businesses large and small to buy ads", meaning there will simply be more of them available, and perhaps more of them in your feed at once.

Finally, the third goal is to improve targeted ads, which aim at your specific interests. This will make ads for products and services you're likely to care about appear more frequently, a tactic used on the web to increase the revenue generated by ads. Prepare yourselves, Instagram fans--these changes are coming.
