The producers behind ABC's Castle seem to be wanting to change things up in season 8.

What Would 'Castle' Have Done If Stana Katic Left?

Alexi Hawley, one of the new Castle showrunners, spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently and revealed that they are interesting in shaking things up in season 8.

"We just want to get in there and try to tell some really dynamic stories," Hawley said. "Going into season 8, it feels like it's time to shake things up a little bit."

'Castle' Set To Go On For 'Many Years'?

This is no more apparent than in the shocking departure of Penny Johnson Jerald, who played Captain Gates on the crime procedural. It was announced in late May that Jerald would not be coming back for season 8, which shocked fans and the actress herself.

She wrote a message on Twitter shortly after the news came out, which read, "To my Castle fans around the world, as of late yesterday I am surprised and saddened to learn that I will no longer be a part of the Castle family. Thank you all for your support and love. Hugs from PJJ."

There is no word on what Hawley and fellow showrunner Terence Paul Winter have in store for Castle in season 8 but it will definitely look a little different without Captain Gates there.

Luckily, Nathan Fillion (who plays Castle) and Stana Katic (Beckett) have signed new contracts to appear in season 8 so we won't be losing the core dynamic of the show.

Castle season 8 is set to premiere in the fall on ABC. The show will continue in its Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
