'Downton Abbey' Actress Says 'It's The Right Time' To End Series

On Tuesday, Vulture posted the details from executive producer Gareth Neame who admitted that he was considering letting the series continue after the sixth season. But this just happened to be a more proper time.

"It's very much a decision that's been made by the producers and all of the actors. We certainly weren't canceled by any of our networks, that's for sure," Neame said at a For Your Consideration event in Beverly Hills. "I'm sure we could have made another season or two beyond this...[but] I think we all felt about a year ago that this would be the classic 'quit while you're ahead.'"

Is George Clooney Going To Return To 'Downton Abbey?'

Some people might be interested to know that the series could have actually ended after the fifth season until a decision was made to add in one more.

"Originally, we had thought in terms of five years, and then we realized we didn't have enough space to wrap everyone up, and so it seemed a good idea to do one more," series creator Julian Fellowes said. "We didn't ever think we were going to go on to 11 years, and I think it's good that people are sorry rather than thrilled."

Downton Abbey Season 6 is expected to premiere in the United States in early 2016 on PBS.
