Jason George Upped To Series Regular For 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12

Grey's Anatomy ended its eleventh season in an emotionally intense way given the death of Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), but with his death the writers of the series are able to go in so many directions since his death was so sudden and unexpected in a sense.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of this medical drama, and others behind-the-scenes were looking to fill the void left by the loss Dempsey's character, which TVLine revealed at the end of last month.

Will Arizona Find A New Love Interest In Upcoming Seaosn Of 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Now the site reported on Monday that an actor has been tapped to fill this key spot in the cast for season 12.

New Zealand native Martin Henderson will be reporting to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as the new male doctor.

He has been cast previously in a Rhimes' creation on ABC. It was the short-lived Off the Map, where he assumed the role of Dr. Ben Keeton. Perhaps Rhimes will be bringing Henderson's former character to Grey's Anatomy.

Or maybe he will be McDreamy 2.0 since he fits the dreamy bill just like Dempsey did. The description for the casting call included the actor needing to be in his late 30s to late 40s aside from being attractive, charismatic and believable as a surgeon.

The Kiwi is expected to make his debut on Grey's Anatomy during its season 12 premiere on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
