Brennan and Booth's decision to leave the Jeffersonian in the season 10 finale of Fox's Bones was something producers consulted the stars with beforehand.

Will Brennan & Booth Return To The Jeffersonian For 'Bones' Season 11?

Bones show runner Stephen Nathan spoke to Entertainment Weekly recently about the decision to have both Brennan and Booth leave the team to go off and be a family. The boss said that they spoke to Emily Deschanel (who plays Brennan) and David Boreanaz (Booth) about what was ahead.

"We talked about where we were going and what we had to do when we didn't know whether or not the show was coming back. And the thing about Emily and David is that they really roll with whatever you throw at them, and they take what you've given them and they make it so much better than you could have hoped," Nathan explained.

"So they really brought it in these last couple of episodes, and especially the last episode, with all of the terms they were required to make, in terms of realistically leaving a situation that they've been in for so many years. I just found it to be really emotional even for me to see. It was very satisfying."

There was plenty of meaty material for both Deschanel and Boreanaz as Booth struggled with his gambling addiction.

Now heading into season 11, there is a lot up in the air in terms of where Bones can go, but Nathan is assuring fans that the heart of the show will remain on Brennan and Booth.

"I would imagine the next time we see this show conclude, it will be a different time, and it will conclude in a different way, but I think the heart of Bones and the essence, somewhat philosophically or dramatically, is always going to be consistent because of the characters," Nathan said. "Because of David and Emily and all of the characters."

It is not yet known if Brennan and Booth will be officially working for the Jeffersonian again in season 11, but Nathan confirmed in another interview that there would a time jump in between the two seasons.

Bones season 11 is set to premiere in the fall on Fox, in its regular Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.
