EA and Bioware debuted Mass Effect Andromeda during EA's E3 conference, announcing the new title and showing off a CGI trailer.

The game will be the first entry in the series that does not continue the story of the original, set apart from Commander Shepard's trilogy. There are no details on characters or plot, but the emphasis on exploration that we heard rumblings of before the reveal are clearly present in the trailer, which you can watch below.

Mass Effect Andromeda will launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One holiday 2016. That's still quite a way off, but there are plenty of details to look forward to before then. It will be interesting to see how Bioware bridges any connection to the first trilogy, including when this takes place on the timeline and if any of the same characters will be involved. Our new protagonist has a lot to live up to, whoever he or she is, but it may be some time yet before we learn more.

New Destiny Expansion Revealed At E3

Plot details will probably come next sometime this year, which will hopefully include a first look at the gameplay. Mass Effect 3's ending may have irritated many fans, but the series was one of the most iconic for last generation's consoles, and Mass Effect Andromeda will be hugely anticipated regardless of any lingering ill-will towards the third game's ending. At least the optional DLC helped a little, right?
