Castle is in transition mode as it looks to cast two new actors ahead of season 8.

Is Penny Johnson Jerald The Only Star Leaving 'Castle'?

The new season of Castle will feature a security specialist named Hayley, according to a new report by TVLine. The report says that Castle producers are looking to cast an actress who will be in a fractional series regular role, which means she wouldn't necessarily be in every episode.

Hayley is described as a "quick-witted, free-spirited former LAPD cop" who does not hesitate in getting the job done as a security specialist. Producers are reportedly looking for an African-American or Hispanic actress in her late 20s to fill the role.

New 'Castle' Showrunner Ready To 'Shake Things Up' In Season 8

The TVLine report goes on to reveal another role for season 8 - an East Indian tech analyst in a "major recurring" part.

The addition of these two roles comes amid news that Penny Johnson Jerald was let go from the series. Jerald, who played Captain Gates for four seasons, was blindsided when it was announced that she would not be returning for season 8.

All of this comes after a slightly unstable year for Castle. There were rumors that season 7 was going to be the end of the crime procedural, with stars Nathan Fillion (who plays Castle) and Stana Katic (Beckett) failing to sign new contracts until the last few weeks of the season.

Castle season 8 is set to premiere Monday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
