Jesse Eisenberg is stressing that his portrayal of Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be a real psychological examination.

'Batman vs Superman' Synopsis Teases The 'War' To Come

Eisenberg recently sat down with MTV News while promoting his new movie The End of the Tour and discussed the iconic Superman villain he will play in Batman v Superman.

The actor noted that Batman v Superman "has an emotional core to the character. It's not [some] silly, villainous character."

One important detail Eisenberg wanted to point out was that his performance is "an entirely different thing" from Gene Hackman's performance as Lex Luthor in 1978's Superman.

"The tone of that movie is so different," Eisenberg said, referring to the more fantastical film. "That movie wouldn't be made like that now."

The actor added, "There's some more psychological accuracy that the person [Lex] is coming from a place that's probably diagnosable in some ways."

By the sound of it, Eisenberg's Lex Luthor will further examine the psyche of the character, particularly emphasizing the darkness within him. This may make the character similar to Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, at least in tone.

Batman v Superman also stars Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release in theaters on March 25, 2016.
