Well, Shawngela fans, it's safe to say that this particular Girl Meets World reunion didn't go as expected.

'Pretty Little Liars' Season 6: Midseason Premiere Title Announced, Rosewood Is Hard To Leave Behind

Hordes of '90s kids were expecting the Boy Meets World couple to find their way back to each other during "Girl Meets Hurricane," but what viewers saw on Friday night was far from a second chance at romance (see video below).

As it turns out, Angela (Trina McGee) is already happily married and on the cusp of motherhood. As McGee's character and her hubby started to consider having children, Angela began to feel dubious about her own mothering skills. With her father dead and gone, however, Ms. Moore turned to the only other person whose opinion she's never doubted - Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong).

So, why did the Disney Channel series decide to take this route? Series creator Michael Jacobs explained.

"Shawn's relationship with Angela Moore had clearly ended in the original show, but ... Shawn is the only person Angela trusts to help her make an important decision," Jacobs told to TV Line. "In answering for Angela, Shawn also discovers something about himself, Riley and Maya. We all want these characters happy. Angela is. Shawn isn't. The way it was and has always been."

Can Shawn move on with his love life once and for all? Find out when Girl Meets World airs Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on the Disney Channel.
