Channing Tatum was recently named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2012.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, but the Hollywood hunk waited till an interesting time to tell his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum.

In an interview with People on Wednesday, the 31-year-old actress talked to the magazine at the opening of Kimberly Synder's Glow Bio in West Hollywood. Dewan-Tatum, who has been married to the "Magic Mike" star for three years, recalled the time she was first told of the news. The couple had been doing some dirty work in the bathtub.

"Our dogs were being skunked every other night for about two months straight, so this was a very normal occurrence, to be kneeling in front of the bathtub washing our dogs. But he was like, 'Oh, by the way, I was named People's Sexiest Man Alive.'"

She laughed saying, "Is that not the strangest way to tell me this news?"

So how did Tatum first respond when he was told the big news?

"My first thought was, 'Ya'll are messing with me,'" said the actor.

He commented on his physique that helped nab the top title saying: "I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can't move well and I like to move. When I'm not training, I get really round and soft."

Dewan-Tatum shared her thoughts on why the 32-year-old actor decided to use that time to share the news.

"I'm not quite sure why the skunk smell made him think about it," she said. "Maybe it was the fact that it was the last thing something the Sexiest Man Alive would be doing. But I don't know. Maybe it was the sexy skunk musk that made him think of it."

Once she settled down from the surprise, Dewan-Tatum shared how she felt about her husband's new title:  "I think it's an honor, because it's a great league of people that have been given this honor before him. That's special, because it says he's achieved so much in his career and in his life that makes this award a possibility. But he's always been the Sexiest Man Alive to me."
