After hinting she may leave the Bravo reality show for the last couple of months, Leakes officially pulled the plug, and revealed her big news to her fans on Twitter.

Following her news, Leakes spoke out about the future of the series without her.

"The fans are going to gag!" Leakes told PEOPLE Magazine of the news of her exit on Tuesday. "I definitely don't want to let them down, but I feel very free. I can breathe a little and do some things that I've wanted to do."

"I don't know if the show will survive without me," she added. "I hope so. … It will just have a little bit of a different tone without me there, for sure."

Although Leakes will no longer be seen on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she will soon return to Bravo. As she announced earlier this year, she and Kim Zolciak will be starring in their own spinoff series, The Road To Riches, which will allow fans an inside look at their long-running, and often dramatic, friendship.

No word yet on when The Road To Riches will debut.
