Criminal Minds season 11 might be a more emotionally centered one judging by the comments of some cast members of the CBS procedural.

New Character To Play Dr. Reid's Romantic Interest?

In recent interviews, Joe Mantegna, who plays David Rossi, and Matthew Gray Gubler, who portrays Dr. Reid, have talked about their character arcs in the next chapter. Both actors have suggested, or rather hoped, that season 11 delve more into their personal stories.

In an AMA Reddit interaction Mantegna hinted at the fact that as a director he wanted to take a more personal direction with the show, and also that fans might get to see Rossi's third wife in the next chapter.

Could Ella Greenaway Return For Season 11?

"I think that when a show's been on so long - I'm directing 2 episodes this season, I've directed one in the last few seasons, and I purposefully try to bring in more personal stories in the scripts I direct," he said. "There's always going to be a crime - that's the name of the show, I get it - but there's going to be more character development. As to what that is, you'll have to see. I've been married 3 times, we've dealt with two of my wives so far, so there's a possibility you might find out more about wife number 3."

In a recent interview, Gubler revealed similar wishes for his character on the show.

"I'd love to delve more into his home life and his social life and to see his mother return and just to, kind of, like figure out what he does on the weekends," Gubler said.

The finale of Criminal Minds aired on May 6.
