Prince William and Kate Middleton will make global healines again after they make a special announcement next month.

The Royal Palace will share "wonderful, happy news," according to a report.

A friend of Middleton's has revealed that the royal couple will confirm speculation about the Duchess of Cambridge's recent weight gain.

Jessica Hay, a friend of the Duchess, told New Idea that "they're planning to make an announcement in December" and that Middleton is pregnant.

Kate and William, both 30, became "focused on starting a family" after they attended a number of high profile events including the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics.

As for the preferred sex of their first child, Hay noted that while the Duchess would prefer to have a boy first then a girl because "it seems very traditional," the couple would be content with two children if they are the same sex. "They'll be happy with two boys or two girls, they don't want more," Hay reportedly said

Hay shared that the couple agreed that now would be a better time than ever to start a family. "They've discussed it endlessly and don't want to be older parents," Hay shared.

Hay is considered a close pal of Middleton- they went to the same school and she was lucky enough to attend the couple's wedding reception.

William, 30, had told Katie Couric earlier this year that his time in the Royal Air Force might end soon due to the pressures of his "other life." Referring to his personal life, he explained that he and the Duchess are "keen to have children."

The report did not reveal an expected due date for a royal baby.

Middleton has been under scrutiny for a baby bump since she and Prince William wed in April 2011.

Last month, friends of the possible future King and Queen told Vanity Fair that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge "hope to be blessed with a baby soon."

The news of a baby's arrival should serve as some relief for the Royal Palace after enduring the highly publicized topless photo scandal in September.

An unidentified photographer, who was dubbed "Le Rat" by the European press, took photos of the royal couple while Middleton was topless during a personal vacation in France prior to the Diamond Jubile South East Asia tour.
