McKayla Maroney & Obama "Not Impressed" Photo Goes Viral

The president of the United States was not impressed.

Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney and President Obama posed together mimicking her famous "not impressed" facial expression and the comedic turn has become a viral sensation among fans.

The photo, which was taken on Thursday, Nov. 15 was posted on the White House's Flickr page. The picture with Maroney and the president was taken when the US Olympic women's gymnastics team, nicknamed the "Fierce Five" went to visit the Commander-In-Chief at the White House.

"He was the one who brought it up," Maroney told Associated Press Sports. "We were about to leave and he said, 'I want to talk to you one second about the face.' He said, 'I pretty much do that face at least once a day.'"

"I, like, freaked out," Maroney added. "He said, 'Let's do it together.' We took a picture and now it's everywhere."

Maroney first shared the news on Twitter telling her almost half a million followers: "Did I just do the Not Impressed face with the President?" 

She learned of the photo's release firsthand by her father, via text message, and realized it went viral later. "It's really funny," said Maroney. "Because it's like everywhere." 

When Maroney joined her "Fierce" team mates - Kyla Ross, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas, for their reunion at the White House, she posted the good news on Twitter. 

"All together again!! FIERCE 5 reunited. So good being back with my best friends," McKayla, 16, tweeted Nov. 15. 

Maroney's "not impressed" face became popular when she showcased it after receiving the silver medal in the Olympic women's vault competition on August 5.

It became a phenomenon when a New York Internet designer named Gavin Alaoen registered the domain name, "mckaylaisnotimpressed," on Tumblr shortly after.

Since then, Alaoen and countless others around the world, has photoshopped the image of Maroney with the silver medal around her neck, crossed arms, and a disappointed scowl - clearly not impressed. The meme can be seen with various backgrounds including one with Usain Bolt, Justin Bieber, and Kim Jong Un, leader of North Korea. Other backgrounds for the "not impressed' photo include Drake and Chris Brown, Power Rangers, the Eiffel Tower, the NBC building, and Magic Mike.

Maroney enjoyed the humor so much she posted a link to the Tumblr page dedicated to her face scowl on Twitter.

"This tumblr is kinda funny, made me laugh," she wrote of the website.
